Soapnut shells are the natural alternative to washing detergent, and literally grow on trees! The 15 metres high soap nut trees grow mainly in India, in the spring beautiful white flowers blossom, and the ripe golden soapnuts are harvested in October to be dried and stored.

The soupnut shell contains Saponins, which on contact with water release mild suds, in India and Nepal soapnuts have been used as a washing detergent for hundreds of years.

In a nutshell (pun intended), all you need to do is put a couple of these shells in a little cloth bag, throw it in your washing machine, and do your laundry. Each batch of shells lasts a few loads, so they’re very economical. When they are no good to use anymore, you can throw them into your compost.

Vegan, chemical free, allergy-free, non-toxic, sustainable and cheaper than normal detergent... what are you waiting for?

To put into perspective 500g of soapnuts can be used for more than 240 loads of laundry.

Sending your soapnuts in a cotton bag each time was not good for the environment so your soapnuts will now come in a paperbag, with an optional little cloth bag to put your nuts in for the washing machine - you'll need one of these the first time you order.
